So after the trimming and create the rough texture, the piece is bisque fired in the electric kiln. The pieces are fired for 8-9h up to 970 C degrees. Higher temperature is not good for Raku firing because is closing the pourers of the clay, so later It will not absorb the smoke. Some potters are going up to 1000 C degrees but I suggest to not go higher if you would like

I like using compressed air to get the crackle. After crackling it, I put it in a metal bin that has been lined with paper. Here’s a short video of this little guy. It was first Raku Fired to get the decorative lines. It was then Raku fired with a clear crackle. After it gets pulled out of the kiln, I blow compressed air on it to help develop the crackle. But then goes into a metal canned line with paper.
